HRMINIs at the Pungo Strawberry Festival Parade: Bar-B-Que for Lunch
On the next leg of the event, I'm told we actually picked up a stray MINI at a stoplight. When the owner got out of his car at the light and asked what was up with all the MINIs, someone explained and gave him a club business card!
The final rally point for the day was a stop at Jake’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que on General Booth Boulevard for lunch.
Now, I’ll admit to being BBQ dependent, so I found it especially fun to sample Jake's great wares. They offer everything from Memphis ribs to North Carolina pulled pork and their sauces are great! We had a strong showing of parade participants who all enjoyed Jake's strong air conditioning as well after the heat of the parade route.
The food and fellowship were great. It was lots of fun to have the opportunity to get to know more members of the group! We even had a little fun irony at clean-up time, when we were presented with “moist towelettes" with a very apropos name:
Meanwhile there is always time for a little MINI spotting, and I noticed these rather interesting cowl vents:
All in all it was a great experience and a lot of fun! We learned a bit about large group organization and won second place for motorized group from the parade committee. Notes to self: More candy, more beads, and don’t throw out too much at the beginning of the parade or you’ll run out, silly.
Thanks to Larry (glassdarkly) for serving as HRMINI’s Parade Marshall. With that job came responsibility for coordinating with the graphic company, the parade committee, and Jake's, and helping eighteen individualists to work together smoothly. Great job Larry! Thanks also to Cajun for bringing the beads for everyone. They provided interaction with the crowd that made us one of the most popular groups in the parade.
And the results? We won the Second Place for Motorized Units!!!
